The history of Alternapak actually started in 1985 with the foundation of Variopak, an alternative supplier of gable top cartons, which over the years acquired a 10% market share in Europe. In 2003 Variopak transfered its gable top business to Elopak from Norway, and became a production factory for Elopak under the name Fortapak. Fortapak continued however its development of alternative aseptic packaging material.
In November 2008 the new joint venture Alternapak was founded by Frapag Beteiligungsholding AG, Cartotecnica Veneta SpA and Fortapak Holding BV. In June 2009, after having accompanied the transfer to Alternapak of its contribution in assets and staff, Fortapak has left Alternapak to pursue its own strategy in other areas of business. The shares of Fortapak in Alternapak were taken over by Frapag Beteiligungsholding, already the majority shareholder of Alternapak. So today Alternapak is a joint venture of Frapag and Cartotecnica Veneta.
Frapag, based in Vienna, Austria, is an investment company with strong roots in the paper and paper converting industry. Alternapak thus is fitting well in its portfolio.
Cartotecnica Veneta is a converting company based in San Pietro in Gł near Vicenza in Italy, established in 1956. Cartotecnica has more than 20 years experience in the manufacturing of aseptic packaging material as supplier of SA type carton reels to IPI.
